We are seeking the help of many local non-profit organizations to recruit volunteers who will manage each of our 33 Transition Areas (TA) along the Rock Lobster Relay course. This is a great opportunity for your organization to raise funds in a fun way! Here’s how it works. Your organization applies to manage one or more Transition Areas (see form below). We send your organization a packet with detailed information about that particular TA. Your organization recruits volunteers to fulfill the duties for your TA. In exchange each organization will be given one free team entry. Your organization fields its own team and keeps 100% of the proceeds from the sale of each spot on the team. This entry can be used to raise funds for the organization in any way that it wishes, whether that be a fixed-price sale, an auction, a raffle, or any other fundraising technique. Each regular 12 person team is valued at $1,080, but your organization can charge as much (or little) as you would like.
How you can sell your race entries:
- Sell a spot on the team to an individual that wants to support your organization
- Sell the entire 12 person team to a company who fills the team with their employees
If your organization cannot field an entire team then you will receive a $500 donation instead. We will work with organizations to help fill slots as needed.
In addition to receiving a free team entry your organization will have the opportunity to vend or sell items to runners during the race at your TA, for example coffee or snacks. The money you earn from these sales will go straight to your organization. Depending on the facilities available at your TA, such as a school, you may have the opportunity to sell meals from a cafeteria or collect money from runners to use shower facilities.
Below is a table that shows the TA number, the name of the TA, when the first runner and last runner are projected to come into the TA, and the TA’s address. Please be aware that precise locations of TAs are subject to change. Please keep in mind that this event is held over a 2 day period — Friday 6/23/17 and Saturday 6/24/17. Some TAs may open on Friday and close on Saturday in the middle of the night.
Please note that we are giving “first refusal” to organizations that covered locations in 2016.

What do you need to do?
Recruit volunteers to work at the TA. Be aware that Vehicle Transition Areas (VTAs) will need more volunteers than a regular TA. The VTAs are located at TA 6, 12, 18, 24, and 30. Keep in mind that the times listed in the chart are based on our actual runners in 2016. The times could vary by 15-30 minutes in 2017. Plan to arrive 30 minutes prior to the first scheduled runner and be prepared to stay 30 minutes after the last scheduled runner.
- Parking Guides
- Chute Manager
- Data Collection (has clipboard and is recording bib # and time that runner enters and exits TA)
